Song Lyrics:
Dear Mr. President,
Come take a walk with me.
Let's pretend we're just two people and
You're not better than me.
I'd like to ask you some questions if we can speak honestly.
What do you feel when you see all the homeless on the street?
Who do you pray for at night before you go to sleep?
What do you feel when you look in the mirror?
Are you proud?
How do you sleep while the rest of us cry?
How do you dream when a mother has no chance to say goodbye?
How do you walk with your head held high?
Can you even look me in the eye
And tell me why?
Dear Mr. President,
Were you a lonely boy?
Are you a lonely boy?
Are you a lonely boy?
How can you say
No child is left behind?
We're not dumb and we're not blind.
They're all sitting in your cells
While you pave the road to hell.
What kind of father would take his own daughter's rights away?
And what kind of father might hate his own daughter if she were gay?
I can only imagine what the first lady has to say
You've come a long way from whiskey and cocaine.
How do you sleep while the rest of us cry?
How do you dream when a mother has no chance to say goodbye?
How do you walk with your head held high?
Can you even look me in the eye?
Let me tell you 'bout hard work
Minimum wage with a baby on the way
Let me tell you 'bout hard work
Rebuilding your house after the bombs took them away
Let me tell you 'bout hard work
Building a bed out of a cardboard box
Let me tell you 'bout hard work
Hard work
Hard work
You don't know nothing 'bout hard work
Hard work
Hard work
Oh
How do you sleep at night?
How do you walk with your head held high?
Dear Mr. President,
You'd never take a walk with me.
Would you?

RESEARCH
Contextual factors: This was when the economy was falling and more and more people were falling out of unemployment. This added to the song a lot because that is what it is mainly about.
What is the issue: The number of families who are becoming homeless is rising very fast, and Bush wasn't doing much that was actually helping it. It also talks about how Geroge Bush can sleep at night and how he can act like everything's alright when it's not.
Who is affected: Anyone who is or has been homeless or unemployed is affected a lot by this. They would have a lot of the same opinions as Pink and some of them might be mad at George bush for this.
Varying Perspectives: Obviously the majority of the republicans wouldn't agree with this song because a lot of them support bush. A lot of the democrats or homeless people would agree with this song because it explains their life a lot right now.
Severity of the Issue: I think that is a HUGE issue right now. There are so many people that either don't have a home, or are on the verge of losing it. And that's just in America. In third world countries living situations are so much worse.
CRITIQUE
I saw some people that agreed with the author completely and I saw others that disagreed completely. There also were a lot of people who had mixed opinions. I think that now that Obama is the president, a lot of these people who agreed with Pink now have more hope that things will change. I think that I share a lot of the same views as her. I think that poverty is becoming a huge problem and that there are people out there that have huge houses and a ton of money left over, and that there are an increasing number of people who have no money, and no place to stay. I honestly think that if the whole country works together, things change in our country.
